The hidden costs of burnout
In recent years, turnover has become a hot topic for HR and entrepreneurs.
Many believe that people change jobs solely for better salaries, benefits, or career opportunities.
However, there is a less visible, more subtle, and much more costly truth: chronic stress and burnout.
📈 The numbers don’t lie
According to the Microsoft Work Trend Index 2024, 41% of workers worldwide are considering changing jobs.
And many of them are not young novices: they are executives, middle managers, senior leaders, strategic figures who support processes, people, and vision.
The problem is not just “a change of scenery.” Often, it is an escape from an environment that is no longer sustainable, because the mental load and pressure have become unbearable.
⚡️ Burnout: when pressure extinguishes motivation
Burnout is not just fatigue. It is physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that drains energy, reduces clarity, and wears down relationships.
When a manager burns through all their reserves:
- they become more reactive and less strategic,
- they listen less and show less empathy,
- internal micro-conflicts increase,
- they lose sight of why they do what they do.
It is no coincidence that Gallup estimates that replacing a stressed manager who has left the company costs between 50% and 200% of their annual salary, including training, onboarding, loss of know-how, and decreased team motivation.
🧘♂️ True retention is not a ping pong room
In recent years, many companies have focused on “superficial” benefits: partial remote working, on-site gyms, free snacks, relaxation areas.
But the truth is that true retention starts with protecting people’s energy, not filling them with gadgets.
Especially for those in leadership positions, a culture is needed that promotes:
- real breaks,
- spaces for decompression,
- daily regeneration rituals,
- contact (even minimal) with nature.
🌿 Regenerative leadership: a strategic choice
Investing in the well-being of managers and team leaders is not just a matter of welfare: it is a strategy for continuity, performance, and internal reputation.
A regenerated leader:
✅ makes better decisions,
✅ manages conflicts with clarity,
✅ promotes team cohesion,
✅ reduces the risk of silent turnover.
🎯 How to get started right away
There’s no need to revolutionize everything overnight.
You can start with small rituals of regeneration, even just a few minutes a day.
