How to bring nature to work (even in the office)
Small daily gestures to regain focus, calm, and energy throughout the day
In an increasingly fast-paced and digital work environment, bringing even a small piece of nature into our day can make a difference. You don’t have to work in a forest to benefit from contact with nature: just change your perspective and create small regenerative rituals. Here are some simple ideas to get you started:
1. Open the window and look at the sky
When you feel your mind getting tired or your concentration waning, try to stop for a moment. Open the window, take a deep breath, and look at the sky. Even just a minute of visual connection with the horizon and natural light helps to relax the nervous system and broaden your mental perspective.
2. Bring a piece of nature to your desk
A leaf, a smooth stone, a shell, or a small piece of wood collected during a walk: these are simple objects but full of symbolism. Touching or looking at them while you work can immediately evoke the calm and presence experienced in nature.
3. Grow a seedling
Having a plant on your desk is not just a decorative element. It is a daily invitation to care, patience, and observation. Caring for a seedling reminds us of the slow and vital rhythms of nature and helps us to take care of ourselves as well.
4. Listen to the sounds of nature
When you need a regenerative break, put on headphones and listen to the sound of rain, waves, or a flowing stream. Natural sounds have a powerful calming effect on the nervous system and can help you recharge in just a few minutes.
5. Be inspired by natural images and videos
Another way to bring nature back into your day is to watch short videos of natural landscapes or set a desktop background with images that evoke places of beauty and peace. Your eyes need natural nourishment too!

Bringing nature into the workplace doesn’t just mean improving the aesthetics of your workspace: it means cultivating an inner space of connection, balance, and energy.
