Saint Hildegard of Bingen: “Look at yourself: you have heaven and earth within you.”
These are the words of Saint Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), a Benedictine nun and woman of many talents. During her lifetime, she was also a prophetess, healer, herbalist, naturalist, cosmologist, gemologist, philosopher, artist, poet, playwright, musician, linguist, and political advisor. She was consulted for advice and help by many eminent figures of her time, such as Frederick Barbarossa, Philip of Alsace, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, and Eugene III.
“Look at the sky: Look at the sun and the stars, Observe the Beauty of Nature… And now reflect. How great is the delight that God gives to humanity with all these things… The whole of Nature is at the disposal of humanity, we must work together with it, because without it we cannot survive.”
At the beginning of the century, this great woman had already intuited the therapeutic power of Nature and how important it was to preserve it…
We are nature, we are connected to the earth and the sky through our feet and our heads: if we raise our arms to the sky and spread our legs, planting them firmly on the ground, we look like a tree. Our lungs have the same veins as leaves, our brain looks like the inside of a tree trunk… how many similarities nature brings us with the human body.
By harming Nature, we harm ourselves.
